Lined with ropes? the enc.cat says cordill is a hempen twine... any ideas?

well-ordered. I think that's the sense of this.

The image is a string line the surveyors marked the layout out with before the buildings went up.

With silver bells and cockle shells,
And pretty maids all in a row.

The maids in question are always shown standing in a long straight line in the illustrations of this nursery rhyme. As any military man will tell you, a straight line of soldiers is a well-ordered line of soldiers ;-)

neutral  lidius: Més que "well-ordered", vol dir que són molt rectes, com dibuixats amb tiralínies (p.e. les parets tirades a cordill són molt rectes, el cordill serveix de guia per posar bé els totxos). M'imagino que parla de l'Eixample de Barcelona, no?
