I'll give it a try for you, since I have an engineering background (albeit not in Chemistry)... Explanation: "He's interested mainly in the study of structural problems and ester chemistry in the category of alicyclic compounds. [He] has made advances in both the field of synthesis of ceto-esters and in the study of the isomeric structure (?) in cycloparaffins, and did work relating to the synthesis of butadienes." I know that these chemical compounds are made of molecules with intricate ring/other structures worthy of study. I am pretty certain of the above translation, and I hope that it can help you as well. elucidation Explanation: estereoquímica: "Part de la química que tracta de l'estructura 3D de les molècules, és a dir, de la distribució o posició ... dels àtoms ... i de les propietats químiques que en depenen." stereochemistry: "the study of how the properties of a chemical compound are affected by the spatial arrangement of atoms in molecules and complexes" alicíclic: "Dit dels composts orgànics carbocíclics que no pertanyen a la sèrie aromàtica." alicyclic compound: "any of a large class of organic compounds in which three or more atoms of the element carbon are linked together in a ring. The bonds between pairs of adjacent atoms may all be of the type designated single bonds (involving two electrons), or some of them may be double or triple bonds (with four or six electrons, respectively); six-membered rings for which a system of alternating single and double bonds may be envisioned, however, belong to another important class (aromatic compounds), distinguished from the alicyclic compounds by a characteristically different pattern of chemical reactivity" ceto-: "[denota] 3. Que un compost conté ... un grup carbonil cetonic. Ex: cetoàcid, cetoaldehyde, cetoèster." isomeria: "Fenomen que presenten certs composts, ... el fet de tenir la mateixa composició centesimal, el mateix pes molecular, i la mateixa fòrmula empírica, però propietats físiques i químiques diferents" isomerism: "the existence of sets of two or more substances that have identical molecular formulas but different molecular structures or configurations, and hence different properties. The substances that make up these sets differ only in the arrangement of their component atoms and are called isomers." cicloparafina: "cicloalcà" GDLC, Britannica |
