I,ve seen this term used in bank receipts. Think about th natural way the water flows. (hihg to low). So it is an ordered process like whatever process it is in sequence.

Asker: Thanks, yuzouren. Your suggestion is enlightening--I am thinking here ‘流水’ probably refers to '流水作业‘, would you agree?

Asker: Do you mean a cascade enzymatic reaction during the sequencing? Problem for me is that this term only appeared in reference, I could not identify exactly what had happened in sequencing.
