This terms seems to be used frequently to describe landscape painting or poetry.

It's the essence of a good Chinese landscape painting and quite an artistic concept. It might be hard to find equilvalent in English.

How can this art composition be enhanced for it to be a place to live and a place to play?


Explanation:
Translation for the arts / poetry can be viewed as a form of art hence it also depends on the translator to strike an equivalence between two diametrically opposite cultures, that is to translate the essence of the original language into idiomatic target language aesthetically.

Explanation:
Though this begs for a bit more elaboration, the phrase "come to life" seems to be the most appropriate English gloss. It is the most frequent idiomatic expression used to describe the dynamic interaction between painting and viewer, and characteristic of a good painting - realistic or abstract.
