You could potentially add "intensive" onto the front of my suggestion, if you have more context and know that the training would be intensive.
I think the sense here is that the speaker wants to convey that the employees should first be given basic training, not short-term training that attempts to teach them too, much too fast, resulting in their not learning anything, or leaving more confused than before. Such training would be overambitious.
