Context: 然則皆用水墨，皆有濃淡乾濕的變化，外表看上去似乎差不多，而實質卻有天淵之別。一者格高無比，一者俗惡不堪，關鍵在哪裡呢？就在“骨秀”和“骨俗”。外表似相似，但骨相卻大異。

I basically agree with Esempi's original suggestion. From the context, "骨秀" refers to artwork and not a person. "骨俗", in the context could be translated as "profound crudity", or something similar.
