Chinese to English translations [PRO] Art/Literary - Poetry & Literature | | Chinese term or phrase: 稻草獾 | Referred to in a Chinese folk story. Seems to be a type of Chinese badger.
I can't seem to find any references for an English translation:
Straw badger? Rice-straw badger? Scarecrow badger?
Help appreciated!!!
Thanks! |
| | | English translation:Bird feeder | Explanation: You mean this story?
http://www.zh61wx.com/Article/Class11/2488.html
It says:
“我是名副其实的稻草獾,不信摸摸看。”
两只野兔摸了摸獾丁,才发现,眼前这只獾真的是由稻草做成的呢!
And this summary of the story says:
入冬前,獾先生用新鲜的稻草做了一只没有手和脚却长着6个抽屉的“稻草獾”,并把它立在一个高大的木桶上。那抽屉和木桶里都装满了粮食,有玉米粒、橡子、松子、山核桃、花生、土豆、番薯、萝卜……在飘雪的日子里,外出觅食的野兔、鹿、松鸦、山雀都得到了“稻草獾”的帮助。大家非常爱这只骑在木桶上的獾……
That's all I got, but it seems we're not looking for a real animal here. It's just a conceit in the story.
