Chinese term or phrase: 直接的信仰对象
How would you translate 直接的信仰对象 here? Direct object of faith?

在现代性时代,虽然“历史性并未因此而失去其意义,它成为教育和直观的手段,成为加强群体意识、加强统一与融合的手段,但却不再是直接的信仰对象”了。 [1][德]特洛尔奇:《基督教理论与现代》,第142-143页。朱雁冰等译,华夏出版社,2004·北京。]

This is my stab at this: "As Troeltsch argued, in the modern age history has not lost its meaning because of this, but it has become a means of education and direct observation as well as a means to strengthen community consciousness, unity and integration, and is no longer the direct object faith." I wish I could find the German title of this book and ideally the original German quote. Ernst Troeltsch was a German Protestant theologian (1865-1923).

Explanation:
Why not immediate? This would imply that people would do this without question, if you don't want to use direct. Imminent means about to come immediately anyway, so immediate seems to work better for me.

agree  Wenjer Leuschel: "unmittelbar" means "immediate" or "imminent," indeed.

Explanation:
Maybe this book helps: "Die Jesus-deutung von Ernst Troeltsch im Kontext der Liberalen."

http://books.google.de/books?id=YHcnDCE38goC&pg=PA254&lpg=PA...

Page 254 reads:

For both "eigentlich" and "unmittelbar," I'd rather choose the English word "imminent" than "direct."

At the beginning of Johann Hinrich Claussen's dissertation, "Die Jesus-Deutung von Ernst Troeltsch im Kontext der Liberalen," there is a list of the works of Ernst Troeltsch. I guess, what you are looking for is in "Gesammelte Schriften," indicated as GS. The GS II is the second volume of "Gesammelte Schriften." You might be able to find the original German text of "基督教理论与现代" there.

BTW, "历史性" is probably mentioned in Troeltsch' works as "Historismus (historicism)." For instance, the title of one of his works is "Der Historismus und seine Überwindung." And I just wonder what his "Protestantisches Christentum und Kirche in der Neuzeit" would be all about. Anyway, good luck to your search and research.
