Chinese to English translations [PRO] Religion | | Chinese term or phrase: 认信性 | Haizi was a poet who wrote Christian poetry or identified with Christianity. How would you translate 认信性 here? I understand 认信 as a profession of faith but I'm stumped by 认信性 in this convoluted sentence. 认知性 usually means cognitive.
海子对基督教的认同是认知性而非认信性的。他仅只将基督宗教作为构筑自身理性(认知)、情感(审美)及意志(伦理)世界的精神资源之一来认同,而非将之作为终极真理、灵魂归宿、生命道路来认信。 |

Act or process of knowing. Cognition includes every mental process that may be described as an experience of knowing (including perceiving, recognizing, conceiving, and reasoning), as distinguished from an experience of feeling (情感)or of willing (意志). Philosophers have long been interested in the relationship between the knowing mind and external reality; psychologists took up the study of cognition in the 20th century. Haizi’s acceptance/recognition of Christianity is cognition-based not faith-based. He only recognizes/accepts Christianity as one of the spiritual sources of building the world of personal/individual reason (cognition), feeling (appreciation of the beauty)and will(ethics), but he doesn’t recognize it as a faith: the ultimate truth, the destination of the soul, and the way of life.

“认知性而非认信性的”---- 请注意这个表达中最后的那个“的”子,这整个短语是一个形容词,不是名词。它的意思是,“海子对基督教的认同是“认知性的”,不是“非认信性的”。
也就是说,“海子”并没有把基督教当作一个“信仰faith/belief”来看待,而只是从“认知/认识 cognition”的角度,也就是说,把它看作是an experience of knowing (including perceiving, recognizing, conceiving, and reasoning)。
认信:认识并信仰某种事物,在这里,就是认识基督教并信仰基督教。但是,“海子”对基督教的认同,是cognition-based (认知性的),而不是faith-based (认信性的)。

Explanation: In contrast to "of cognition 认知性," the faith in a belief is usually "of confirmation." (That is probably why we need "reconfirmation.")
