Pretpostavljam da bi "čhv" bilo četvornih hvati. Kako to prevesti na engleski?

Explanation:
Yes, a čhv is, technically speaking, a square fathom but I do not believe that anyone actually uses this measurement.

For translation purposes I always convert this unit into something that is actually used. 1 čhv = 3.2445 sqm so I would use this.

Hvat nije samo jedinica za mjerenje DUBINE vode, a ne 'dubljine', već i, npr., za mjeru drva (1,83 m). Stoga, hvat kao četvorni hvat pronalazim i na još jednom mjestu a to je u dobrom starom Bujasovom rječniku te predlažem sljedeće rješenje: četvorni hvat = 3,6 square metres3 ili 4,3 square yards :) nadam se da će nas sada više biti zadovoljnih! Pozdrav svima!

agree  bonafide1313: iako se fathom možda najčešće rabi za mjerenje dubine vode, to je ipak jedinica duljine, te ima puno primjera izražavanja i zemljišne površine "in fathoms". No čini se da matem. baš ne štima čhv sa "sq. fathom", ali ima Viennese fathom koji odgovara

agree  bonafide1313: To je sigurno dobar način, ili staviti odgovarajuću napomenu, zavisno od svrhe prijevoda. Hvat se danas i u HR vjerujem ne nalazi u dokumentima novije izrade, jer se manje rabi i u praksi, ali ipak je još poprilično prisutan. Only, HR čhv =3,5967 m2

agree  Davor Kalinic: Hvat se i u novijim dokumentima itekako koristi, to je u HR uvriježena mjera za površinu. Način je dobar, jedino bih jedinicu zaokružio na 3.6 square meters

Koliko vidim, fathom je duljina od 1,83 m, što onda matematički ne bi odgovaralo četvornom hvatu. No na linku dolje spominje se neki bečki hvat (Viennese fathom = 1,9 m) koji bi u kvadraturi odgovarao načem čhv.
