Thanks for answering and mainly for waiting. I had to get together with a friend who restores churches and paintings, with a pretty darn good background in this stuff...Based on his explanation, I believe this (window) jamb to be the most accurate, but I am still reluctant to add it to the glossary. I can see it was quite a hot potato.
