Czech term or phrase: Poturčenec horší Turka
I need to translate this proverb.
The literal meaning is that somebody, who was made a Turkish person, is worse than a Turkish person itself.

To out-Herod Herod
Explanation:
I have also heard 'to be more Pope-like than the Pope'. I think if you can think of any other similar similies then you can use that as well.

Depending on the given situation, maybe 'there's no smoker worse than an ex-smoker' :)

edit to above - should be 'no worse non-smoker than an ex-smoker'!

or maybe 'Holier-than-thou attitude'
'Do as I say, not do as I do'
I'll stop there... I might be going way off track...

A convert is worse than a Turk

Explanation:
V anglických textech se občas vyskytují odkazy na srbské/balkánské přísloví, které je téměř stejné s tím naším. Třeba si ale dát pozor na to, pro koho je překlad určen, určitě si to někdo může vysvětlit jako zcela nevhodné.

Example sentence(s):
  • These new janissaries, just like those of the Ottoman army of old, have to prove their credentials by being more zealous than the master himself; as the Balkan proverb has it, 'a convert is worse than a Turk.' Nobody is more insanely vehement in his insul
