It's the big wheel which helps keep the timing for the chimes. When the big and small wheel/disk line up, every fifteen minutes, it sets off another round of chimes, the number of chimes depending on what time it is. The smaller one rotates faster than the bigger one and the next round of chiming stops when the notch in both wheels line up to allow the lever to fall through. |
