Toto málo používané slovo se týká zvláštního stavu mysli, který jsme schopni sami navodit. Předpokládá to určité duchovní zázemí, ale bezpodmínečné to není. Jsou známy případy, kdy se mysl i nezasvěceného propadla do tohoto stavu a on náhle prožil závratný okamžik osvícení.
Pro duchovně založené lidi se jedná o stav cílený, ke kterému zaměřují své často celoživotní úsilí. Nejedná se ale o konečné dosažení osvícení, to je zde ještě značně vzdáleno. Spíš to lze přirovnat k radostnému překvapení, které se dostaví, když po dlouhé cestě konečně v dáli zahlédneme svůj cíl. Už před námi leží jako na dlani – ale ještě tam nejsme

My examples are from religion, true, but can stand by themselves. Of course, budhism (at least to me) has never been a religion, but a school of thought, philosophy. As to psychology, that applies to both religion and philosophy. So there is no argument here on my part. My examples are not exclusively from religion, by the way. Although self-control can be a way of personal "religion".

I have purposely stayed away from budhism due to the duality of nirvana and enlightenment. Even so, the first step to achieving the "insight" as you have properly put it, would be meditation.

Napadly mě také termíny, které uvádí Hannah "reflection/self-reflection", ale s ohledem na následující:
