Czech term or phrase: what is a "bubok"?
I'm not sure if that is the correct spelling. I was told it was a racial slur.

bogeyman

Explanation:
the word you're probably looking for is bubák, which means bogeyman. I've never heard of it used as a racial slur. Then I considered it might be some form of argot(?).
And indeed, to my horror I found myself on a rightwing site I'd rather not visit again. But there, Bubak was used at least once in the comments to refer pejoratively to a black person:

see: comment 31
but as I say, I don't think normal Czechs would know about this (perhaps I'm wrong?)

agree  petr jaeger: yep, we would hardly understand it as a racial term in general.

-> that's a relief, Petr - my young children are native Czech speakers, so bubak is quite a common word in our household!
