Jeg mener at der her er tale om konstruktion af en overflade som selve gulvet bygges ovenpå. Det kunne f.eks være krydsfinér. Her i Texas limes trægulv dog ofte direkte ovenpå fundamentet så der kunne også være tale om udgravning til fundamentet. Hvis gulvet skal "svæve" istedt for at blive limet fast lægges et tyndt lag skumgummi ud først. Under alle omstændigheder mener jeg at det er tale om at udgrave (forberede) undersiden (hvad den end måtte være) i forberedelse på at konstruere gulvet.
