The ´taxi-meter principle´ is applied to many things that are publicly subsidised. Basically, it means that colleges and universities are paid a standard sum for each student who completes a course, not directly for the costs of running the course.

I think færdiggørelsestaxametret actually means the sum allocated rather than the meter, but it is a buzzword that is bandied about, and cannot always be taken too literally.

Asker: Thank you for your very detailed explanation! I have no idea if we have an exquivalent word/concept in English but with the help of your explanation I think something like "Completion Sum" should be sufficient. It is for a Business School prospectus. Many thanks!
