The teaching is mostly hobby-related, but there are languages like Spanish that would not be available at the local Folkeskole, and classes for scooter driving licences etc.
Serious knowledge and skills are taught, and there is a full-time school for young people with special needs.
It is not a boarding school at all, though some courses may involve travel and staying overnight over a weekend or for a few days.

It should not be confused with an ´Efterskole´ either.
My son dabbled with computers (but preferred his own at home) and tried out snapping and developing his own black-and-white photos at our local department some 10-15 years ago. I still treasure some of those photos!
But that was called a Juniorklub.

I'm not sure what you would call it - a special youth version of the Danish ´Folk High Schools´ - which are not ordinary high schools either...

An ungdomsskole as I understand it is not a boarding school. In fact, in many ways it's not even a real school. I used to go to our town's ungdomsskole as a teenager. I think it was open a couple of afternoons/evenings a week. It was primarily a safe, comfortable place to hang out with friends. There was a pool table, some couches, music and some refreshments. Sometimes, they would put on a movie night or similar activities. Usually, it was supervised by some older students (maybe upperclassmen in high school).
I think there was also some elective classes being offered once or twice a week (of which electronics might be one). Again, I don't think the classes very really formal (with grades and finals and all) but it sounds about right that you would receive a "certificate of participation" (bevis for deltagelse) at the end of a course.

I went to the website for an ungdomsskole and clicked "select language" which then brought up "Youth School". Looked like a machine-translation generated translation, so I was doubtful.

Is an Ungdomsskole a boarding school?

According to Gyldendals Fagordbog, it does look like 'youth school' is the official translation. However, I think a bit of an explanation might be needed. In my understanding (from growing up in Denmark), ungdomsskole may not be so much a formal educational setting but rather an informal after school venue where teenagers meet up and socialize in a semi-supervised setting. I never personally participated in any classes through the ungdomsskole in our town but I do believe they offered certain courses (e.g. sewing) and I could imagine that electronics or computer technology might be the kind of thing that would be offered.
Then again, I could be completely off - might depend on the broader context of your source?
