This is a system specific to Denmark. In 1993, the Danish banks introduced this system whereby consumers made online payment without giving out credit card information.
see "Dankortet blev introduceret i 1983 som et notasystem, hvor kun "fluesmækkeren" kunne anvendes. Dankortet var et debetkort med de foreskrevne internationale mål, magnetstribe og PIN-kode. Magnetstriben skulle indkodes med kortnummer, kortholders pengeinstitut og kontonummer, udstedelsesdato og sikkerhedskoder. Kortholders CPR-nummer skulle anføres på kortets forside. Dankortet blev derudover udstyret med det udstedende pengeinstituts logo på den ene side og PKKs logo på den anden side."
