Danish term or phrase: Der skal være højt til loftet
Nordjyllandslejren hylder tanken om "frihed under ansvar", og det gælder både for børn og voksne. Vi er jo på sommerferie, så der skal være højt til loftet - og gerne meget højt. Her skal være plads til spontane indfald, som gør lejren sjovere.

Thanks!

room for your own ideas
Explanation:
Sometimes this means literally space to move around in, but here it is obviously more metaphorical as well.

scope for your own ideas, freedom of choice.

Sometimes it means open minded, and Gyldendal suggests ´room for differences of opinion´, but that is probably not relevant here.

On a holiday it probably means being able to ´do your own things´ as well as joining in group activities.

There should be room for differences

Explanation:
Højt til loftet » Plads til forskelligheder

The idea is that you do not overly restrict personal freedom. There is less pressure from above / the surroundings, to "conform". You are free to do as you please.

There should be room for adventure

Explanation:
I would suggest an interpretation in the context here rather than the dictionary translation.

This is a clever double use of the idiom/metaphor 'højt til loftet', which is also used to refer to the freedom of being out in the open, so that 'loftet' can also mean the sky, as in 'being out and about with nothing to clutter the view to the open sky'.
Typically used about the sense of being away from the city with its overshadowing buildings, shut off from nature.

so the participants should have free reins

Explanation:
Altså frie tøjler. Desværre bruger mange amerikanere "free reigns" i stedet for, men det er nu "free reins", som er det originale udtryk.

wiggle room (see below)

Explanation:
I enjoy these idiomatic phrases where you can become somewhat creative in your translation, and in English you will have an array of choices. I would be inclined to translate "Vi er jo på sommerferie, så der skal være højt til loftet - og gerne meget højt" into English as something like "We're on our summer holidays, so we are going to have wiggle room to do our own thing, and plenty of it."

Explanation:
just another suggestion. This is often used to indicate there should be no ceiling.
