Danish to English translations [PRO]
Human Resources / Vigtige parametre for en virksomheds succes
Danish term or phrase: bærende
Det er vigtigt at holde sig for øje, at parametrene over den vandrette linje er de bærende og derfor dem, der skal være størst og udvikles først.

English translation:form the backbone
Explanation:
form the backbone
This is a perhaps possibility.

I have occasionally used ´cornerstone´ for the metaphorical meaning of ´bærende´, but it does not go well with ´above the horizontal line´ somehow.

Gyldendals suggests ´pivotal´ or ´crucial´, but you have probably seen those.

agree  Hans Wang: If this was a building then "load bearing" would be the most direct translation. Fundamental works good in a corporate setting. Supporting misses the mark in my opinion because supporting elements are not load bearing if you think of it like a building.
