Danish to English translations [PRO]
Idioms / Maxims / Sayings / trøje | | Danish term or phrase: trøje | This is a short text a client has asked to be translated from Danish, which is not my primary working langage (Norwegian). I have come across an expression which I suspect may derive from a Danish idiom, and would appreciate some guidance.
"NN er rigtigt dygtig og pligtopfyldende. Har taget alt hvad der har været af uddannelsestilbud for at kunne vedligeholde sin markedsværdi. Personligt er hun meget neutral. Nogen gange kan det være svært at vide, om det er NN der sidder på stolen eller om der ligger en trøje. " |

This is not really a fixed expression AFAIK, and can be taken fairly literally.
It seems to be a slighlty negative description - saying the person is so neutral that there might just as well be no-one inside the blouse/jumper on the chair. Unless you are looking for the embodiment of discretion.
Coming after the description of a very dutiful, hard-working person who has taken all the courses etc. available, she can't be entirely spineless or unintelligent, but perhaps she lacks initiative, or the self-confidence to show any feelings of her own.
She is absolutely one of the 'stille piger' (which is a Danish expression - for someone who sits in the back row at school, takes everything in and stays out of trouble).
