Danish to English translations [PRO] Law/Patents - Insurance | | Danish term or phrase: Pensionskasser | In a document on taxation of life assurance companies etc.
there is a phrase : "livsforsikringsselskaber, pensionskasser og pensionsfonde" .
What is the distinction between "pensionskasser" and "pensionsfonde" ? |
| | | Pension funds or societies | Explanation: Pension schemes are run in different ways in Denamrk, and it is not unusual for an individual to contribute to more than one scheme through banks, life insurance, workplaces and trade unions. Some are collective insurance-based funds and others are more personal schemes proportional with contributions.
Especially trade unions administer unemployment benefits and pension contributions (A-kasser).
To cover them all, I would probably write ´pension funds and superannuation schemes´
Both suggestions come from Gyldendals Røde Orbøger.
I am watching this space to see if anyone else has a better suggestion.

Having asked my economist husband, he said it was hard to draw a definitive line.
However, a ´ kasse´ is often understood as an organisation that administers a fund (Pensionskasse, arbejdsløshedskasse ... etc.)
´Fond´ refers more directly to the sum in the bank, but in practice the term is sometimes translated as foundation, and if you apply for a grant from a fund etc. then obviously you apply to the trustees.
Private funds/foundations sometimes like ´fond´ because they focus on the money invested or the purppose, and administration is regulated by the fundats (statues/charter/trust deed).
But a ´kasse´ may simply have different historical origins.
