passage

Explanation:
passage
the engineer's passage on the ship from harbour A to harbour B

as in 'working one's passage' (Concise Oxford Dictionary)

"The engineer was given a free passage home after his turn of duty on the outward voyage."

It might be easier to rephrase the sentence - you are the one who can see the context.

-> It is quite a formal term for it, but as far as I can see without more context, corresponds to the Danish, which in fact simply means 'sailing with' (a ship).

agree  De Novi: Without more context given, I agree with 'passage' ;)
