Dutch to English translations [PRO]
Science - Agriculture / Plantvoeding
Dutch term or phrase: biologische plantvoeding
The translation of "biologisch" can be both "biological" and "organic". For food items, it seems that "organic" is widely used. In other areas they seem to be synonyms. However, "biological" also has a "negative" or chemical connotation as in "biological agent".... To translate "biologische plantvoeding", would you use "biological", "organic" or both? Any expert opinion? Thanks.

These natural and organic seaweed products, hand harvested from Shetland’s clear and clean waters using sustainable techniques, are an excellent source of natural nutrients. Containing over 60 minerals and trace elements plus numerous bio-stimulants, the products will give healthy and strong plants, crops and grass"

organic fertilizer

Explanation:
You are right, biological means something completely different to organic, ie 'containing biological agents'. Think of 'biological warfare'.

agree  Max Nuijens, MSc: I prefer fertilizer over nutrition, although the source says "voeding" and not "mest", perhaps because it is intended for household consumer purposes? When the context is agriculture, as the asker indicates, I would certainly use fertilizer.

organic plant nutrician

Explanation:
In the given context, I would definitely use 'organic'.

Introduction to Organic Plant Nutrition
Ensure that Plants are Given Optimal Nutrition and Water and Competing Weeds Controlled
An often quoted first rule of sustainable and organic agriculture is 'Grow a Healthy Crop' and proper nutrition and water are the foundations of crop health and therefore its pest and disease status. If there are shortages of particular nutrients, or the soil pH (acidity/alkalinity) is wrong, the crop may not be able to grow well.
