Dutch to English translations [PRO] Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting / Pottery equipment
Dutch term or phrase:kleivormpers
Anybody familiar with potter's equipment?
Could a "kleivormpers" possibly be an extruder?
WHAT IS AN EXTRUDER? An extruder is a manual tool which forces moist clay through a die shape to make solid/hollow 'extrusions' of varying length. The simplest extruders make coils of clay of varying lengths to assist in making a coil pot. Potters who throw on an electric wheel find extruders helpful when making lots of consistently shaped handles for mugs & teapots. Sculptors and educators find extruders excellent for creating varied shapes to construct and sculpt with.
Pictures that I have been able to find seem similar but would appreciate some confirmation if anyone has done similar texts before.
If found at Eurodicautum that "formpers" translates to "folding press". When I googled "clay folding press" I didn;t get satisfactory results, but many of the sites offered showed "Clay extruder", so it seems to me that your suggestion is the correct one.

Thanks Johan, just got definitive confirmation as well - many thanks for helping out, especially on a holiday, keep well 4 KudoZ points were awarded for this answer
Thanks - fortunately the text just mentioned a few items of equipment so wasn't too technical, the rest was purely "sales pitch". Down here in Portugal there is no Easter Monday so already "slaving away", however off to the Azores on Thursday so mustn't complain! Keep well.
Hi Debbie, mercifully, we have the Dutch phenomenon of the 'Tweede Paasdag' so I can rest up today :-), I just noticed the off spelling of 'form' which in Dutch is spelled was 'vorm' . . . in addition, 'mould' is usually spelled 'mold' in the U.S.
Hi Marijke - thanks for the post-grading input, always welcome. The client's own docs in fact refer (after finally tracing those) to an "extruder" (but of course that is translated too), I'll add this suggestion as a query when I deliver Tuesday morning and keep you informed. Have a good Easter (what's left of it!)

Explanation: Debbie and Johan, as a former potter I have to respectfully disagree. An extruder is used to press clay by means of dies into, usually, elongated forms; a clay mould on the other hand is a mould wherein liquid clay is poured which is then pressed (pers) onto a certain shape.

Debbie,
There are basically four ways of creating clay designs, hand building, extruding, molding and throwing (on the wheel). Feel free to ask me if more info is needed.
