Dutch term or phrase:stamkaart
Is this something like a vehicle registration document? What do we call this in (UK) English? I found details of what a stamkaart is on the following site:
Explanation: A 'stamkaart' is a formal or an official government vehicle registration card, but a master card or record in a private vehicle database. The English term that is generally used in IT is 'master card', or, if it is a record in the software sense, a 'master record'. Without further context, I'd use 'master card'.
Many thanks to all. I went with master record as I needed term for a private database, as suggested by Jack. Lianne's suggestion would work in a different context. 4 KudoZ points were awarded for this answer
Hi Textpertise, there is certainly a distinction between a master record and a master file. If you take a look at the definition of master record given in http://www.pcmag.com/encyclopedia_term/0,2542,t=master recor... and subsequently click through to the link it gives for master file, the distinction should become clear. Best regards, Jack.
