Dutch to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Automotive / Cars & Trucks / Buses
Dutch term or phrase: ruwbouw
Hi,

I am translating a batch of tender documents, in which there is a listing of information required in a particular schedule. This includes the dates on which

1. ruwbouw [of these buses] is to be completed
2. anti-corrosion treatment and paintwork are to be completed
3. final assembly is to be completed.

What is ruwbouw in automotive terms?

Thanks very much in advance!!

coachwork

Explanation:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bus_manufacturing

If it was a car we would say bodywork but for buses and coaches it's called coachwork. The chassis often comes from a different department or even different manufacturer.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Hi Kate, thx for the article reference! This manufacturer is producing the entire bus, and my impression is that what is meant here is possibly the chassis but in particular [also?] the "frame", "cage" or whatever. Any ideas? Somebody suggested "skeleton", which although I don't think is *the* term, fairly represents - to my mind - what is being talked about.

agree  Jack den Haan: With *basic* coachwork. See http://www.motorsportscenter.com/printer_98.shtml . Or perhaps just framework.
