Dutch to English translations [PRO]
Dutch term or phrase: More words I got stuck on in translating a document for a London bank!
(Marijke if you read this, thanks for your quick responses to my previous questions - I'm not a translater by profession, but have been asked to translate a 80-page document)

Again, the following words appear in a financial context:

reflecteren op aandelen
geplaatst kapitaal/aandeel
in geld volstorten (van aandelen)
verschenen persoon (voor het tekenen v/e akte)

in geld volstorten (van aandelen): to pay up in full (of shares)

voorkeursrecht: preferential duty

geplaatst kapitaal/aandeel: placed capital/share(s)

akte: deed (or sometimes certificate)- deed of partnership, deed of sale

verschenen persoon: (the person) who attended/appeared for signing the deed, when a deed is being drawn up...)

reflecteren op aandelen: (context needed): to reflect a share(s), to entertain (an offer, a proposal). Please wait with the latter until somebody else (Marijke :-)?) confirms or corrects, as I have no time right now to check it up properly.

Hi Karin,

Here goes:

reflecteren op aandelen this one is not straight forward. I think they mean ‘reflected through the shares’ (i.e. profit)
geplaatst kapitaal/aandeel issued capital/shares (or stocks: officially American English but I’ve noticed that the British use it too)
voorkeursrecht pre-emptive right, application right
akte deed, contract by deed, contract under seal, formal contract, instrument, licence, certificate (this one is really difficult without context because basically it means an ‘official document’, therefore take your pick)
in geld volstorten (van aandelen) paid-up (shares/stocks)
verschenen persoon (voor het tekenen v/e akte) person present (for signing a contract; I am assuming they mean a contract between various people but it can also be a deed, etc., your best option is to look at an old English akte/document and see what was used there).

I feel for you. It must be pretty tough! When do you have to deliver?

For this kind of translation I use the following dictionary:
Terminologie financieel management (NL/Engels); F. van Amerongen RA; published by Samsom; ISBN 90 14 05074-7

It has never let me down in the past.
