Dutch term or phrase: bestel- en ordernummer
Hello there. Can someone please tell me what the difference is between the two... Here is the context:
4 zendenota's dienen to worden gevoegd, waarop de gegevens van de bestelling voorkomen met ***bestel- en ordernummer*** - aren't they exactly the same thing? i.e. order number....

product and order number
Explanation:
Why would someone use synonyms, unless there was a reason. The "bestelnummer" is the product number for which an order is placed. That is my reading.

Thanks Alexander and all the agreers - interesting little problem... perhaps Erik has a point but Antoinette and Harry's input swung me. Thank you to everyone!

order number

Explanation:
you could also maybe say delivery number or invoice number if that suited the text that you're translating. Though bestel and ordernummer are to all intents and purposes the same thing!

agree  Harry Borsje: my take as well: the product number identifies the supplier item, the order number identifies the customer order for one or more supplier items

neutral  Erik Boers: Ik weet het niet, hoor. Dan zouden ze het toch gewoon productnummer of artikelnummer noemen?

-> Misschien.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Think I am going to go with Alexander's answer - mainly because of Antoinette's added confirmation, but you may well be right instead.

agree  Terry John Costin: I think this may be nearer the mark. Product is not bestel. Delivery would relate to "customer" so I think "bestelnummer" has to do with "Customer number'' Ordernummer contains info on article already

Customer- and order number

Explanation:
Bestelnummer has to do with the client's information, such as name, address, and whether the customer is entitled to any offers/reductions in price, etcetera.

Order number has to do with specific articles.

neutral  Harry Borsje: No, bestelnummer = artikelnummer = productnummer = catalogusnummer, etc, etc, but definitely not a number related to the besteller = klant
