Bus/Financial - Business/Commerce (general) / company website
Dutch term or phrase: behoudens inhoudelijke tariefsaanpassingen
This is from a company website. The whole sentence is as follows. I have spent far too long on this and would be grateful for any help. "De in rekening te brengen tarieven worden BEHOUDENS INHOUDELIJKE TARIEFSAAPASSINGEN telkens met ingang van 1 januari aangepast overeenkomstig de consumentenprijsindex alle huishoudens over de daaraan voorafgaande periode oktober/oktober, met dien verstande dat de bedragen worden afgerond op een veelvoud van € 5." I could have a stab at it but I don't know what they actually mean.

conform to internal rate adjustments
Explanation:
I think it means something like: you are rated the set rates, but the company has the right to change these during the stretch of the contract. I know "inhoudelijk" is a problem here, but I have never heard of 'inhoudelijke tarieven' or 'inhoudelijke tariefaanpassingen'. I didn't even know there was much 'inhoud' to rates as they are usually just numbers. So, I think it's one of them "fancy talk" mistakes.

No expert, consider it a suggestion.

On second thought: I would not use 'internal', because then it becomes a term which is widespread in speed reading (internal rate adjustment), so that entirely changes the context.

Unless you can find out, by calling your agency for example, what 'inhoudelijk' means, I would just drop it and keep: rate adjustments.

And preferably not 'conform to'...Fast reading (being used to having that in contracts a lot) ; it is indeed 'with the exception of'.

So then you get: With the exception of rate adjustments.

In the end I went for the rather garbled "Apart from in the case of specific fee adjustments", but as I had to give the points to someone, JB made a lot of effort :-). But thanks too to Harry and Marijke.

except for substantive fee/rate adjustments

Explanation:
Substantive as in:
sub·stan·tive (sŭb'stən-tĭv)
adj.
Not imaginary; actual; real.
Having a solid basis; firm.

Is this related to energy? There have been some substantial increases the past year or two due to unforeseen events and I think they are trying to cover this.

A possibility.

neutral  Harry Borsje: If anything, I'd expect a lawyer to know his stuff in this area, so I wouldn't discard it as fancy talk.

  -> You're right, it's probably just legalese.

neutral  writeaway: agree with Harry-it's not fancy talk at all-in fact it's all standard phrasing. and fwiw, behoudens isn't conform to, inhoudelijk isn't internal./I'm pleased to see you've subsequently agreed with Harry's explanation./glossary entry is not correct.
