'korten op het salaris/de uitkering' indeed always means some kind of payment reduction. even without 'op', using 'korten' would suggest this interpretation.
but this particular context (the preceding sentence!) does point in the direction of redundancy imo. also, ICT doesn't usually cause pay reductions for 33% of the workforce -- but it may well cause such a redundancy.
my vote: they will lose their jobs.
this certainly is unusual idiom (sounds almost like 'pinioning the workers' to me :-) |
