Dutch term or phrase: bestemming geven aan
This sentence is about the general assembly and a list of responsibilities which it must fulfil. The sentence is as follows:

Zij zal desgevallend het jaarverslag en het verslag van de commissaris(sen) horen en samen met de jaarrekening, waaronder de balans, bespreken en een bestemming geven aan het resultaat.

I was not quite sure how to translate the end of this sentence. My dictionary gives 'find a use for' which sounds a bit strange and I have found a few other similar suggestions. Does the sentence actually mean that the discussion takes place and the general assembly decides how to act upon the result? That would make a bit more sense to me but I can't find anything to back up my thoughts at present. Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

John, what they say is that the general assembly approves the accounts (adopts them) and then sets the purposes for which the profit/result is going to be used (dividend, (re-)investment, purchase own shares etc.). Kitty is completely right and I was wrong. Thank you, Kitty, for your 'winstbestemming', because that was the word I couldn't think of when I read this, and you are certainly right. General assembly was another word I was confused about, as I would call this a (A)GM ((annual) general meeting or in Dutch: aandeelhoudersvergadering, jaarvergadering).
