Bus/Financial - Business/Commerce (general) / information systems
Dutch term or phrase: EC
Is this a common abbreviation for E-Commerce? There is not much context, it appears on a CV in a list of three projects a specialist in information systems/information management has worked on: the other two items on the list are the names of specific projects/institutes for information management and networking.

On Google I've also found the phrase 'EC standaard bouw" which refers to standards for e-commerce, so if the abbreviation is used for this in Dutch, I just want to be sure it is also used in English in the same form.
(Since both letters are upper cased I don't think it means e.c. as in exempli causa).
An other possibility that occured to me is that it could also refer to a specific organisation, such as the Engineering Council (EC Standards), but that is British and the person is in the Netherlands, so I'm not sure.

EC
Explanation:
I'm sorry, I'm still not entirely sure what you are looking for, judging from the context.

I think it is safe to leave it if it is an EC standard as there is still an EC, 'de Europese Commissie' http://europa.eu.int/comm/index_nl.htm and the European Commission: its English equivalent http://europa.eu.int/comm/index_en.htm

Thanks - since there are so many possibilities I'll just leave EC in English, assuming it's a proper name.

since you mention institutes and projects, I think this is most likely

strictly speaking there are three pillars to the EU - the one that deals with law-making and therefore anything arising therefrom (i.e. under the umbrella of a directive, regualtion etc - which can include EU-funded institutes and projects) is strictly speaking designated as EC.

The term EU was introduced in Article 1 of the Maastrict Treaty (TEU) to describe the union of Member States and is often misued in other contexts - you can talk about EU countries, or EU citizens but anything done under the guise of and funded by EC Legislation is an EC project.

The other less likely possibility is of course that these courses in the CV were completed before 1 Novemebr 1993 when the TEU came into force.

Doubt whether European Commission - that is an institution in it\'s own right.

Best thing here is to ask the client - failing which you\'d not be 100% sure

Explanation:
Couldn't he simply be referring to the European Community (EC)?

Houd het maar op EG (Europese Gemeenschap); de man in kwestie zal waarschijnlijk zelf niet (heel) goed het verschil kennen tussen EG en EC; wordt voortdurend dooreengehaspeld
