Thanks, Tina. Sure there are many sources out there where rollout is a subprocess of deployment, or exactly the other way around, or where they are separate processes. There are no hard definitions that are generally accepted. Just google on "rollout deployment" (including quotes) - you'll find many occasions of rollout/deployment and rollout (deployment) etc.
I think, however, that on most occasions these are being used interchangeably, with deployment being about 20 times more prevalent than rollout (or slightly less, allowing for differences in spelling).
When it's certain that no external roll-out is involved (as asker has confirmed below), "deploying" would be my preferred choice.
"... developing and rolling out software" doesn't sound (to my ears) nearly as cute as "... developing en deploying software".
Still, I am willing to admit that the world probably will still be turning tomorrow if asker would choose to use some form of rollout in this sentence :-) |
