Dutch to English translations [PRO] Bus/Financial - Computers: Systems, Networks / Account Types
Dutch term or phrase:ombuigen
The context is as follows:
a) als muntsoort-sleutel = home-currency,
This snippet is part of a description of how conditional statements should traversed in a software prgoram. IDENTIFICATIE-CRC and KONTRAKT-SOORT are fields in a database. BRS is a string name identifying a "(b)edrijfs(r)ekening(s)telsel" or business account system. "sleutel" in this context refers to a "key" which is understood to be a variable.
I simply have no clue what "ombuigen" is in this context. "bent account number" doesn't seem to fit, simply because it doesnt make sense to "bend" an account number. I presume this is some banking jargon. Any ideas?
'Redirection' in an software context means to change the target of an operation to a different target (by using a pointer, for example).
Perhaps the original account number is a dummy number and it must be redirected to an actual (target) account number.
All good help... Thanks everyone! I sent back the document with the term untranslated and requested clarification from the client. The client claims it means "to redirect"... but not in terms of pointers. Redirection of pointers I understand, but the client claims it means "redirecting payment flow through a bank account number". Thus, "omgebogen rekeningnummer" would mean "the account number through which payment flow is redirected", which I could shorten to "redirected account number"... but then you lose what it means. It seems they are simply talking about some type of intermediary (holding) account, like a "tussenrekening"... but it was still unclear until the explanation from Fiona.
As for option (b) there is no "NIET" occuring in the sentence. I simply copy/pasted and translate what the software designers wrote for documentation. 2 KudoZ points were awarded for this answer
Sorry Crumpler, apparently the software designers/documenters made a mistake in the "b" option!

Explanation: As far as I know, 'ombuigen' is not a standard term in the IT/ICT field. I think they mean that the account, in whole or in part, is converted to some other form. My -- quite extensive -- range of specialist dicos are quite "silent" on this point, too.

With payments and acceptgiros Interpay sometimes replaces the Postbank account
number of the beneficiary by his bank account number - 'diverting Postbank -> bank'.
In these cases this field contains the Postbank account number and Account number
beneficiary contains the bank account number.
In diverted acceptgiro this field contains the Postbank account number from the
codeline of the form.
With payments and telegiros Interpay or the Postbank sometimes replaces the bank or
Postbank account number of the beneficiary by an account number belonging to
another bank - 'diverting Overstapservice' (account transfer service). In these cases this
field contains the former account number and Account number beneficiary contains
the new bank account number.
If the item has not been diverted, both this field and Account number beneficiary
contain the bank account number of the beneficiary. http://www.interpay.nl/binaries/VerwInfo41ENG_tcm35-34970.pd...
