a lot of the HS line is being laid at or slightly under ground level.
Where tunnels are required, through the heart of the green belt for example, they are using the cut-and-cover method of construction.
In some places they are not bothering to do the covering, just leaving deep or shallow gullies with concrete sides and bottom.
