I have opted for rooftop structure, as this is what is meant in Dutch in this instance. It does have some Google hits from manufacturers.

"Roof construction" is a "safe" option IMHO.

And I find then curious!

In answer to Peter and Jaap, my suggestion was intended as a \"safe\" option because it cannot be criticised.

A \"roof construction\" can be both the method of roof construction, but it can also be a \"construction added to a roof\" so the disagrees are rather unfounded.

disagree  jaapbak: roof construction would mean 'dakconstructie', which is something quite different

-> I'm a carpenter with over 30 years experience, 12 of which in NL. "granny sucking eggs" springs to mind.

disagree  Peter Steenbergen: Roof constructions sounds like the construction of the roof itself, whereas 'dakopbouw' (I think) refers to the installations built on top of the roof.

-> I'm the carpenter around here. Following your reasoning a "zin opbouw" is something built on top of a sentence!!

agree  Chris Hopley: 'dakopbouw' can mean various things; 'construction' or 'structure' covers them all; see pics at http://www.woninguitbreiding.nl/fotos dakopbouw.htm for example

agree  Dave Greatrix: Also a possibility

agree  Chris Hopley: Peter: it can be the structure of the roof itself, e.g. when a sloping roof is installed to replace a flat roof. 'Dakopbouw' can be a variety of things; take a look at http://www.woninguitbreiding.nl/fotos dakopbouw.htm for example.

disagree  Dave Greatrix: "roof building-up"?? I've heard it all now! Rooftop is a word rarely used in the construction industry, and would certainly be found a curious choice of terminology by construction personell
