Dutch to English translations [PRO] Social Sciences - Education / Pedagogy / school report
Dutch term or phrase:leefstijl
Dear all:
I'm translating a school report, and as can be expected there's a list of subjects and the corresonding marks per trimester. Background: the school is an "SVO". Translating this direcly as "lifestyle" would be meaningless for the US English audience, and relating it to "levensbeschouwingen" as listed in the Nuffic glossary might be dangerous, given that the latter is at the university level. Suggestions?
Cheers, R.
Explanation: In the UK this would be refered to as "social, behavioural and emotional" skills, or just "social / emotional skills" for short, e.g.
"This publication is a curriculum resource to help primary schools develop children’s social, emotional and behavioural skills. It includes assemblies and follow-up ideas for work in class."
and
"This curriculum resource aims to develop the underpinning qualities and skills that help promote positive behaviour and effective learning. It focuses on five social and emotional aspects of learning: self-awareness, managing feelings, motivation, empathy and social skills."
Explanation: I've been doing a Google search and found a Dutch school website where the term Leefstijl is explained. Apparently they are lessons about social competence and healthy behaviour. Maybe this helps form your thoughts even if this isn't the most exact translation.

Explanation: That is what it is called at my children's school (in the UK). And on the UK website for teachers. And in most other schools in the UK.
The children usually call it 'PSHE' for short.
