an elective
Explanation:
An elective or elective study / module (this can sometimes be part of a minor programme), but they allow students to explore a greater depth of subjects across the faculty / faculties:

e.g. "The undergraduate programmes provide further flexibility and advance interdisciplinary aims by giving opportunities to take elective modules from outside the School."

That should be "electives" or "elective study"; plural, not singular!

Explanation:

agree  writeaway: BUT not 'an' elective-it's a grouping of electives into the ever-present NL pakket: http://66.249.93.104/search?q=cache:R-0CLnq_Li4J:www.inholla...
