Dutch term or phrase: onderwijs assistent
I mean a person assisting in education in higher education (e.g in a language lab), so not like a US teacher's aide, who is probably a student him/herself.

We seem to agree on Teaching Assistant.

disagree  Dave Calderhead: assistant teacher is an alternative name for a primary school teacher's assistant - such as my daughter, who I mention in my answer

teaching assistant

Explanation:
as you say,
both at university level (PhD students assisting with the teaching or supervision in teaching labs) and primary school level, assisting with lessons as a qualified primary school tacher's assistant.
My daughter has a qualification as the latter.

agree  CI95: with statement re university level. Had a TA myself at some point to help mark exams (US). Can't speak for the primary level but you seem to have it from the horse's mouth.
