The context is a formal letter (from an academic medical centre), stating that, at present, there are no 'opleidingsplaatsen' available:

Explanation:
In the UK postgraduate medical training is run by Deaneries (http://www.mmc.nhs.uk/pages/deaneries), which offer training places/posts to doctors following their undergraduate education. The practical learning will take place at the teaching hospitals affiliated to the deaneries and the theoretical part of their training will be run by the affiliated university. So, a doctor will have a training post/place (e.g. senior house officer, registrar / specialist registrar) at a local hospital affiliated with a medical deanery. agree  Els Spin: Ik zou gaan voor 'training POST, omdat een AIOS ook in 'paid employment' is. Als je begrijpt wat ik bedoel... / Ja, maar als je als scholier een 'place' zou krijgen, dan krijg je niet betaald.
