Ter verduidelijking: met 'vroegere' bedoel ik dat de 'middenjury' nu niet meer bestaat en is vervangen door de term examencommissie van de Vlaamse Gemeenschap.

Volgens mij is grand jury ge woon de Waalse equivalent van de Vlaamse middenjury

Explanation:
Times ago, instead of following the normal study and examination system, one could obtain the same diplomas, passing the exams before a Grand Jury. This way it was possible to obtain either diplomas without a regular course, or pass exams that were not a consequence of a normal course. This is (was?) a Belgian institution.
