| | standby power consumption | Explanation: -> "We investigated the variation in standby power consumption in ten California homes.Total standby power in the homes ranged from 14–169 W, with an average of 67 W.This corresponded to 5%–26% of the homes’ annual electricity use."

-> "The Commission has adopted today the ecodesign regulation to reduce standby energy consumption of all household and office products. The regulation lays down energy efficiency requirements which will cut the standby electricity consumption by almost 75% by 2020."

Technically, consumption by phone chargers left plugged in is known as 'no-load consumption' (http://www.electronicstalk.com/news/poo/poo139.html ). Personally I would be happy to include this in 'standby consumption' as effectively the same thing is happening as when you leave a TV in standby mode: the device is not in active use, but is using power. |

Asker: My question here would be, is this generic enough to apply to everything that has low, continuous power consumption, even if it's not necessarily a device on standby but also, for example, a plugged-in adapter with nothing attached (like a cellphone charger)?
