agree  bertvandermoer: If you have data consisting of 8 bits you can transmit them all at the same time if you have 8 wires, thats called parallel. If you have one wire you must send the bits one by one, thats called serial datatransfer. Reading data serially is better.

  -> True. Serial is faster. And that seems counter-intuitive. Parallel was initially an improvement, but eventually serial regained superiority due to timing issues... Thanks, Bert.
