Het gedeelte van het aluminium profiel dat achter de plaat zit, mag niet te dik zijn om spanningen te vermijden. Indien dit wel het geval is, moeten de vleugels van het profiel zo breed zijn dat de bevestiging van de plaat doorheen het voegprofiel gebeurt.

I think the correct term would depend on the cross-sectional shape of the profile. Alcoa uses the term 'legs' in some cases, and 'flanges' in others. See the reference below. In this case, I think 'flange' is probably the appropriate term, but without further context I can't be sure.
