Engineering (general)
Dutch term or phrase: pendelen
Anyone got an idea what 'pendelen' means in this sentence? The text is some technical instructionsfor a heater.

De ventilatoren blijven in bedrijf, na afkoeling beneden de ingestelde waarde komt de brander weer in bedrijf (pendelen).

tripping
Explanation:
The heater works with a thermostat that tells the motors when to swith on and off. After cooling of the air below the preset value (temperature), the motors switch on. When it gets too hot, the motors switch off again. If the values are not set properly (too close, for example, or another problem), the motors keep switching on and off very quickly, which may ultimately damage them. I found the installation and maintenance instructions of an air cooler, for which the same principle applies. It contains the same versions in Dutch and English:

"De motoren dienen zodanig te worden geregeld dat ze niet gaan pendelen. Dit kan worden bereikt door een vergrendeling in het stroomcircuit."

The English equivalent (I think it is translated from Dutch to English here):

"Preferably, the electrical control circuit should be arranged with a manual reset device in order to prevent continuous on/off switching (tripping) of the motors."
