Report by the TCB (Technische commissie bodembescherming) on the impact of the production of biomass for energy on soil quality.

De TCB definieert duurzaam bodembeheer als ‘het voorkomen van negatieve gevolgen van het bodemgebruik elders en later, het in stand houden van het bodemgebruik op de lange termijn, het rekening houden met de opvolgbaarheid van andere vormen van bodemgebruik en het onderhouden van ecologische diensten die van algemeen belang zijn’.

I think it has to do with succession, successor and the ability of that.

'taking into account the ability to follow up with other forms of soil use'


Because it isn't really a question of preserving but the ability to follow one crop with another, yet not specifically referring to rotation.

"Sustainability" might be an option, but the text also has many instances of "duurzaamheid", so I think I'll go with a more literal alternative in the absence of any further info from the client. Thanks, everyone.

Explanation:
more an inspirational answer than a good one, but I imagine this (direction) could be used in connection with soil management.

I can't imagine there not being a better term for it though...

neutral  Terry John Costin: I think Vic, that though your answer seems clever, it is not what the source text means, it is more simple, like to do with the words; 'follow-up and continuance' otherwise it is going beyond translating and into creative rewriting

agree  Jack den Haan: This is the literal translation, and as such would be 100% correct in my opinion. I think 'sustainability' would be the buzz word, though.

I think they simply be referring to 'sustainability' here, which the New Shorter Oxford English Dictionary on Historical Principles defines, inter alia, as: "Cause to continue in a certain state; maintain at the proper level or standard" and "Maintain or keep going continuously (an action or process)".

ofwel practicability -
Dit is een preciesere vertaling in mijn opinie, want sustainability omvat een nuance in verband met de langdurige opvolgbaarheid (dus eerder het 'in stand houden' van enkele woorden tevoren in dezelfde zin), terwijl feasibility ook gaat over de vraag of andere vormen van bodemgebruik wel kunnen toegepast worden.
