I've found this expression in Van den End's Jurlex as "to give for safekeeping." However, online terminological research has shown that this might be expressed more accurately by rendering it as "to register." See the following links:

Would those in the know concur? RSVP. TIA. Cheers, R.

put into custody
Explanation:
deposit with

JURLEX in bewaring geven bij

English Term: put into the custody of, deposit with

register their evidence of being a shareholder?

Maybe best to go with the legal eagles and use deposit to be consistent with certificate of deposit which is the tranlation of 'depotbewijs'

neutral  Adam Smith: Can "something" (rather than "somebody") be put into custody? // True - but the products aren't "put in(to) custody", they're "held" or put in a custodial "acc", etc. //So you did, sorry - I always put the preferred answer in the box! :-)

-> Yes - the services of banks for safekeeping of documents, including equities' certificates, are called custodial services // "custodial accounts' don't exist - and I also give deposit as my prefferred answer if you read it all (:-{)>

Explanation:
The shareholders have to "deposit" their share certificates etc. at the company' offices, e.g.

"As a prerequisite to attending the general meeting of shareholders and to casting votes, the holders of bearer shares and those who derived the aforementioned rights from these shares shall be obliged to deposit their share certificate or the documents evidencing their rights against receipt, at such locations as shall be determined by the Board of Directors and stated in the convening notice."

Or register their interest to attend by submitting certificates etc.
