neutral  Jack den Haan: Sure this shouldn't be batter, or something like that? A cover only becomes a cover once it IS a cover, I would say ;-)

  -> I agree, Jack, but in most recipes in renowned English cookery books ( the Conran, Delia Smith, Alan Davidson, Madhur Jaffrey etc.) there is not really one term for it. The action is usually described (cover with (dip in) beaten egg, coat with beaten egg)
